SEVEN Vietnamese nationals were rescued from suspected human traffickers in Pasay City by the police who arrested a Chinese national in the course of the operation.
The operation was led by the NCRPO-Regional Special Operations Group and the Pasay city police, and included representatives from the DSWD-Pasay City, the Inter-Agency Council against Trafficking – Department of Justice, and the Women and Children Protection Center.
The operation stemmed from a tip made by a concerned citizen who said that several Vietnamese women were allegedly being exploited for prostitution by the arrested Chinese national, who was identified as Zhao Xing, both online and face-to-face, primarily catering to workers in Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) facilities.
The operation happened at Barangay 86 in Pasay City at around 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Zhao was charged for violating Republic Act 10364, also known as the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2012, before the local prosecutors office.
Operations against Zhao’s cohorts who were not present during the rescue operation are still ongoing.
