PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbel yesterday disclosed 636 victims of child exploitation have been rescued by the police since 2022 as he reiterated their commitment in ending all forms of child abuse.

“The PNP stands firm in its fight against all forms of child exploitation,” said Marbil three days after President Marcos Jr, during a command conference at Camp Crame.

The President has ordered the PNP to prioritize child protection in the conduct of law enforcement operations.

He has also directed the PNP to intensify efforts against cybercrimes, maintain “heightened vigilance” during the Christmas season, and to intensify operations to ensure peaceful national and local elections in May next year.

Marbil said the rescued victims included a four-month baby who was being sold on the dark web by his own mother and aunt, who were arrested during an operation in Taguig City.

“These 636 rescued victims represent lives saved and futures restored. Every rescue mission is a step closer to justice and a safer environment for our children,” Marbil said.

The rescued victims, including 375 girls, were rescued during 307 police operations targeting perpetrators of online sexual abuse and exploitation of children-related crimes.

The PNP said 145 of these operations were conducted this year, leading to the arrest of 167 suspects and the filing of 218 cases.

Marbil commended the Women and Children Protection Center (WCPC) and the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group for their continuing campaign against child exploitation.

He also emphasized the growing role of technology, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), in boosting the PNP’s investigative efforts.

“AI-powered tools are transforming the way we solve crimes and rescue victims, especially in cases involving the dark web. These technologies enable us to analyze vast amounts of data, identify suspects with greater precision, and swiftly respond to emerging threats,” he said.

Marbil called on the public to remain vigilant and to be pro-active in reporting cases of child exploitation.

“We urge every Filipino to take part in this fight. Protecting our children is a shared responsibility, and by working together, we can ensure their safety and well-being,” he said.
