SIXTY-TWO job seekers were hired on the spot on Day 1 of the two-day special job fair for displaced workers of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) at the SM Mall of Asia – Music Hall in Pasay City by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

In a television interview, Bureau of Local Employment (BLE) Director Patrick Patriwirawan said out of the 434 jobseekers last Tuesday, there were 62 HOTS.

“This is a 14 percent placement rate, which is about the average performance of our regular job fairs,” said Patriwirawan.

The number is likely to rise as the DOLE held yesterday Day 2 of the activity at the same venue.

Approximately 12,378 job vacancies were offered by 790 employers across various industries during the special job fair.

The holding of the special job fair is in accordance with the directives for DOLE to find employment opportunities for Filipinos who stand to lose employment due to the ban on POGOs.

DOLE data showed that affected POGO workers at risk of becoming jobless is pegged at 79,735 Filipinos and foreigners.
