60 new DOJ prosecutors complete training

THE Department of Justice yesterday said 60 recently-appointed prosecution lawyers have completed a 10-day comprehensive assimilation training, making them ready to complement the personnel of the National Prosecution Service.

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said the Comprehensive Prosecutors’ Assimilation Training (COMPASS) reinforced the 60 prosecution lawyers’ core ethical standards and unique legal responsibilities and equipped them with the knowledge, skills, and attitude needed to carry out their tasks in exercising prosecutorial discretion and decision-making.

“Never waiver in our commitment to upholding the rule of law with mastery and consistency for the sake of all in real-time,” Remulla said.

Undersecretary Jesse Hermogenes Andres, the supervising official of the NPS, said training the new prosecutors was needed due to their “unique position” in the country’s criminal justice system.

Deputy City Prosecutor of Manila Maria Gene Sarmiento, who stood as the course manager, led the participants in reciting the Prosecutors’ Credo which serves as a commitment to perform their duties with utmost integrity and dedication to achieve the ends of justice.

The COMPASS ended last January 30.
