A MAGNITUDE 5.1 earthquake hit Surigao del Sur yesterday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
In an advisory, Phivolcs said it was expecting aftershocks from the quake but not damage.
The quake occurred at 3:29 p.m. It was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 22 km.
Its epicenter was some 84 km northeast of Bayabas town in Surigao del Sur, Phivolcs said.
There are no reported intensities, meaning the quake was not that strong to be felt by persons.
On Saturday night, a magnitude 3.8 earthquake hit Batanes. The was also no reported intensity.
The epicenter of the quake, which occurred at 9:56 p.m., was some 203 km southwest of Itbayat town.
Phivolcs said damage and aftershocks were not expected from the quake, which was also of tectonic in origin and had a depth of 30 km.
