A magnitude 4.6 earthquake hit Quezon on Tuesday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
Phivolcs initially reported the quake, which was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 11 kms, at magnitude 5.1 but later downgraded it to 4.6.
Phivolcs said the quake occurred at 12:17 p.m. with the epicenter located some 25 kms. northwest of General Nakar town.
The shaking was felt at Intensity V in General Nakar; and Intensity IV in Infanta and Real towns, also in Quezon; Doña Remedios Trinidad town, Bulacan; Tanay Rizal; Bacoor City, Cavite; San Pedro, Laguna; Makati City; Mandaluyong City; Manila City; and Marikina City.
It was also felt at Intensity III in Mauban, Quezon; Antipolo City, Angono, Binangonan, Cardona, Taytay, and Teresa towns in Rizal; the cities of Malabon, Navotas, Quezon, Pasay, Pasig, San Juan, and Taguig in the National Capital Region; the cities of Palayan, Cabanatuan, and Talavera town in Nueva Ecija; Santa Rosa City, Binan, Mabitac, and Siniloan towns in Laguna; the cities of Malolos, Meycauayan, Angat, Balagtas, Bulakan, Guiguinto, Marilao, and Pulilan towns in Bulacan; and Mabalacat and Angeles City in Pampanga.
Phivolcs said aftershocks are expected.
It said it was not expecting any damage from the quake.
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD), the implementing arm of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, said in a statement: “As of now, there have been no reports of damage to structures or infrastructure.”
It added that there were no injuries reported.
“Residents in the affected areas experienced mild tremors, with stronger shaking reported in parts of Manila, Pasay, and Marikina,” the OCD said.
