NEARLY an equal number of Filipinos said the quality of their lives improved or stayed the same in the last 12 months while fewer individuals said it worsened, the September 14 to 23 survey of the Social Weather Stations (SWS) showed.
The survey, which involved 1,500 adults nationwide with a margin of error of ±2.5 percent, showed that 37 percent said their quality of life was better 12 months before while 38 percent said it stayed the same or unchanged and 24 percent said it got worse.
SWS said this resulted in a net gainers score, (percentage of gainers minus percentage of losers) of a very high +13, down by 2 points from +15 in June (39 percent gainers and 23 percent losers).
SWS classified net gainers scores as excellent if +20 and above; very high if between +10 and +19; high if between +1 and +9; fair if between –9 and zero; mediocre if between –19 and –10; low if between –29 and –20; very low if between –39 and –30; extremely low if between –49 to –40; and catastrophic if –50 and below.
The survey results showed that the Net Gainer score was highest in Luzon with an excellent +22 (down from +26), followed by Mindanao with a very high +13 (up from +7), Metro Manila with a high +6 (down from +16), and the Visayas with a fair -2 (down from +1).
The polling firm found that the gainers were highest among junior high school graduates with an excellent +20 (almost unchanged from +19), followed by college graduates with a very high +11 (down from +21) and elementary graduates with a very high +10 (down from +14), and non-elementary graduates with a fair -4 (down from 0).
SWS said the net gainer’s score was also highest among the self-rated “not hungry” group with +19 (from +18) and fell to +1 from (+12) among the moderately hungry and -22 (from -17) among the severely hungry group.
The net gainer’s score was also highest among the self-rated not poor group with +26 (unchanged) followed by the borderline families with + 17 (from +16) and self-rated poor families with +6 (down from +9).
