THREE people died and 11 were injured in separate road accidents in Quezon City and Cainta, Rizal on Wednesday night.
In Quezon City, three people were killed and six others were injured after a 10-wheeler Isuzu truck experienced brake failure at 11:30 p.m. on the descending portion of the Batasan San Mateo Road in Barangay Batasan Hills, Quezon City.
Meanwhile, five persons were injured during a road mishap involving multiple vehicles in Cainta, Rizal.
The driver lost control of the truck and the container van attached to it detached and ended up in the center aisle. The truck hit the rear portion of a Toyota Vios car and veered into the opposite lane. It also hit an electric post before crashing into three motorcycles and a waiting shed.
“The truck further collided with an unattended Mitsubishi Xpander and the generator engine of Robinsons Easymart, causing an undetermined amount of damage to the involved properties,” the Quezon City Police District said.
Two victims — a motorcycle rider and a commuter waiting for a ride at the waiting shed — died on the spot. The third fatality died upon arrival at the hospital.
The six injured victims were brought to the Rosario Maclang Hospital and East Avenue Medical Center for medical attention. Police said the six have been discharged.
The truck driver was arrested and will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicides, multiple physical injuries and damage to property.
The road mishap in Cainta involving a multiple-vehicle collision occurred around 9 p.m. on Imelda (Felix) Ave., Barangay San Isidro and left five persons injured.
The driver of a passenger jeepney operating along the Binangonan–Sta. Lucia route apparently lost control of the vehicle and hit two cars and a motorcycle.
Cainta Mayor Keith Nieto said that the victims were brought to a nearby hospital.
The driver was arrested and will face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple injuries and damage to property.
QCPD officer-in-charge Col. Randy Glenn Silvio extended the QCPD’s condolences to the loved ones of the fatalities.
He also urged motorists to thoroughly inspect their vehicles before travelling.
“Regular maintenance and roadworthiness checks are essential in ensuring everyone’s safety on the road,” added Silvio.
