TWENTY-NINE foreign nationals were arrested during a raid of a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) hubs in Silang, Cavite yesterday afternoon.

The PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), which conducted the operation along with the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC), said the POGO workers included 23 Chinese nationals and six from Myanmar.

The raid was conducted by PAOCC, CIDG and Bureau of Immigration personnel at around 3:30 p.m. at the Elijosh Resort at Barangay Lalaan 2 in Silang town.

PAOCC executive director Gilbert Cruz said the suspects will be initially held accountable for violation of immigration laws.

Cruz said the operation was conducted in collaboration with local officials of Silang.

“This is really a classic example of cooperation with the local government (and the local police),” said Cruz, adding that Silang town executives coordinated with the PAOCC after learning of the existence of the small-scale POGO hub in their area.

“It’s a guerrilla-type (POGO hub),” he said of the raided scam.

The CIDG said the operation stemmed from information provided by the resort owner who reported the presence of a large number of foreigners at the resort.

Earlier yesterday, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said they are investigating two illegal POGO hubs in Cavite.

“We’re going after those involved in guerrilla operations. In Cavite, we are investigating (POGOs reportedly) inside two subdivisions,” Remulla said.

“There are reports that foreigners are inside (the subdivision), there are many people inside,” said Remulla, without elaborating.
