A total of 2,882 rebels, most of them from the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front of the Philippines (CPP-NPA-NDFP), have applied for amnesty under the national amnesty program of the Marcos administration.
Data from the National Amnesty Commission (NAC), as of end May 30, showed that 1,957 CPP-NPA-NDFP members applied for amnesty, while 536 from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), 312 from the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), and 67 from the Rebolusyonaryong Partidong Manggagawa ng Pilipinas/Revolutionary Proletarian Army/Alex Boncayao Brigade (RPMP-RPA-ABB) also applied.
The NAC and its Local Amnesty Boards (LABs) are currently verifying the information provided by the applicants to determine the merit of their applications.
Only after this careful process will the NAC recommend to the President the granting of amnesty.
The LABs also continue to conduct information drives, including amnesty caravans in different parts of the country as part of the NAC’s mission to further community knowledge on the amnesty program.
The campaign includes orienting amnesty applicants about the application process, including the documentary requirements and the basic elements of the Amnesty Program, as well as providing them with information on various government initiatives and programs that could benefit them.
