WITH 450 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) back home from Lebanon, 254 more are expected to be repatriated from the war-torn country beginning this week, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said yesterday.
In a radio interview, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said the workers are expected to be repatriated until the end of October.
“There is a large group (of OFWs) arriving in the next three or four days. They already have their exit clearances since they have booked their flights,” said Cacdac.
“As of now, there are 254 OFWs set to come home after securing their plane tickets from October 14 to October 28,” he added.
In addition, Cacdac said around 300 OFWs have also requested to be repatriated and are now processing their documents with the Lebanese immigration authority.
Cacdac said 178 Filipino workers staying in temporary shelters set up by the DMW in Lebanon are queued to be brought back to the country.
Late Sunday, eight OFWs safely returned home from war-torn Lebanon after availing of the Philippine government’s voluntary repatriation program.
The latest batch of arrivals brought the total of repatriates from Lebanon to 450 OFWs and 28 dependents.
