THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) yesterday said an estimated 200,000 individuals have applied to become registered voters nationwide in just the first three days of the 10-day voter registration period.

Comelec chairman George Garcia said partial figures show that the voter registration activities have been “blockbusters.”

“By our estimates, we already have more or less 200,000 applicants. These are based on the initial reports coming from the field, which will later on be completed,” Garcia said in an interview.

The poll chief also said a large number of the applicants came from the youth sector, or those who want to participate in the December 1, 2025 Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) polls.

“We see that, especially in the Register Anywhere sites, young people are registering. Some even bring their birth certificates to prove that they are qualified SK voters. This means that our young people are very aware nowadays,” Garcia said.

The poll body resumed voter registration activities last August 1. This will run until August 10, including weekends and holidays.

It said they are projecting about one million people will participate in the registration activities.

“Our projection is 1 million. If we can reach 1 million, thank you. If we cannot, no problem. What is important is that our countrymen have been given the chance to get registered,” Garcia said.
