OPERATIVES of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested two Vietnamese who are allegedly practicing illegal medicine in Makati City.

The suspects were identified only as Doc Ana and Le Thi, both female, who will be charged with violation of the Republic Act 2382 or the Medical Act of 1959.

The two were arrested in a law enforcement operation at the Vera Beauty Clinic located at Makati Tower 2, Yakal Street, Makati City last Saturday, the CIDG said.

“They were caught while performing a lip filling/lip augmentation procedure without a license from the proper authority,” the CIDG said in a statement.

It said the suspects posed as medical doctors, conducted aesthetic and medical procedures such as lip fillers and ambulatory surgery, and prescribed medicines without a license from the Professional Regulation Commission and a permit from the Department of Health.

CIDG director Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III commended the operatives involved in the successful operation.

“The illegal practice of medicine poses a serious threat to public health and life of every patient. With their arrest, we significantly prevented crimes and possible serious health problems,” said Torre.

Torre assured the public that the CIDG is “unyielding” in the fight against all illegal activities, including the unlawful practice of medicine.

“We urge the public to report all illegal activities in their localities and your CIDG will do the rest,” said Torre.
