TWO New People’s Army (NPA) rebels were killed in a firefight with government forces in Capiz on Saturday.
The Army’s 3rd Infantry Division (ID) yesterday said troops from the Army’s 18th, 16th and 12th infantry battalions were conducting combat operations in Barangay Katipunan in Tapaz town at around 7:45 a.m. when they clashed with the rebels.
It said the soldiers conducted the operation in the area in response to reports of presence of rebels belonging to the Komiteng Rehiyon-Panay.
After the firefight, troops recovered at the scene the bodies of two still unidentified rebels, three high-powered firearms, a rifle grenade, explosives, ammunition, magazines, other war materiel, and personal belongings of the rebels.
No one was reported killed or injured on the military side.
Maj. Gen. Michael Samson, 3rd ID commander, said: “This victory is not only a testament to the dedication and bravery of our soldiers, but also to the overwhelming support and vigilance of the people of Tapaz.”
“The timely information provided by concerned citizens was instrumental in the success of this operation,” he said.
Samson reiterated the military’s call to the rebels to surrender and avail of the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program.
“A new life awaits you; one where true harmony and fulfillment can only be found in the embrace of your family, your community, and a government that is ready to support your transformation,” he said.
