MILITARY and police personnel arrested in Pampanga two men who reportedly impersonated Army chief Lt. Gen. Roy Galido in their scamming activities.

Army spokesman Col. Louie Dema-ala named the suspects as Antonio Oreño Cerbito and Ariel Oreño, who he said are the masterminds of a scamming group targeting government suppliers.

Dema-ala said the group’s modus involved sending fraudulent messages demanding “representation fees” from project holders and suppliers using social media accounts that impersonated the Army chief.

The suspects were arrested last February 25 in Barangay Mapalad in Arayat town, said Dema-ala.

He added that the two, currently under the custody of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, are facing multiple charges, including usurpation of authority, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and possession of illegal drugs.

“The Philippine Army has come a long way in professionalizing our ranks. This successful joint operation demonstrates our unwavering commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the Army,” said Dema-ala.

“The arrest of these suspects underscores the Army’s zero tolerance for fraud, especially schemes that gravely undermine the integrity of our organization,” added Dema-ala.

Dema-ala said the Philippine Army has not authorized anyone to demand money from suppliers.

Victims of such impersonation may seek assistance from the Philippine Army, he added.

“May this also serve as a stern warning to all scammers and impersonators who will attempt to do the same,” said Dema-ala.
