PHILIPPINE Coast Guard (PCG) personnel rescued two fishermen off Orion town in Bataan yesterday morning, a day after they were reported missing.
The fishermen, aged 70 and 71, were “physically well” when they were rescued at around 9:45 a.m. some 4.7 nautical miles northeast of Orion, the PCG said.
The PCG said the fishermen were “holding on to their half-submerged fishing vessel” when they were found by PCG personnel on board the PCG’s patrol boat, BRP Boracay.
The Coast Guard Station Bataan dispatched BRP Boracay to conduct a search and rescue operation after receiving information about two fishermen who were reported missing last Sunday.
The PCG said the fishermen were last seen operating their boat off Pilar town, also in Bataan.
Investigation showed the fishermen’s boat encountered a strong current while fishing, causing a mishap.
After their rescue, the fishermen were brought to the Port of Capinpin in Orion, where their families were waiting.
“Upon arrival, they received immediate medical attention and were transported to the Rural Health Unit….for further evaluation and continuous medical observation,” the PCG said.
The PCG said the successful rescue operation “serves as a clear demonstration of the PCG’s unwavering dedication, operational preparedness, and inter-agency coordination in fulfilling its mandates.”
