TWO policemen died when they were struck by lightning inside a police camp in Naujan town, Oriental Mindoro last Wednesday night.
“Their tragic loss is a painful reminder of the silent risks our personnel face in service to the nation,” said Mimarosa police director Brig. Gen. Roger Quesada.
Quesada was referring to Patrolmen Laudelino Samarita Lomio II and Ruzzel Jay Ferrer Fortatum, who he said died on arrival at the Mindoro Medical Center.
A police report said the policemen were parking their motorcycle at the parking lot of the headquarters of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 4-A in Barangay Pinagsabangan 1 when a series of lightning struck amid heavy rains at around 10:30 p.m.
A roving policeman found Lomio and Fortatum lying on the ground and promptly sought assistance from fellow cops.
