TEN more Filipinos were repatriated from Cambodia to Manila yesterday, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.
While it did not say if the 10 were victimized by human traffickers, the DFA renewed its warning to the public to be wary of dubious job offers abroad, especially those being peddled online.
“While always ready to extend prompt Assistance-to-Nationals service, the Philippine Embassy urges prudence and discernment among Filipino online job seekers,” it said in a statement.
“The entire Philippine Foreign Service renews its call for the Filipino public to heed the Embassy’s Advisory No. 09-2025 on deceptive overseas job opportunities peddled on social media, which could bring miserable, even harmful outcomes in some cases,” it added.
The 10, according to the DFA, were able to return home from Oddar Meanchey province in northwestern Cambodia through the efforts of the Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh and Cambodian law enforcement authorities.
The embassy foot the bill for the repatriation, including the airplane tickets to Manila using its Assistance National Fund.
The DFA said the workers were brought to Phnom Penh by embassy officials and Cambodian authorities after a nine-hour land trip from Oddar Meanchey where they were provided with hot meals, care packages and beddings for their stay before their repatriation flight.
To recall, 26 Filipinos who worked in the same Cambodian province were repatriated to Manila last April 16 upon their request to the embassy.
The Bureau of Immigration has said that most Filipinos recruited to work in scam hubs abroad were lured by human trafficking syndicates using Telegram and Facebook, with 125 Filipino workers intercepted in 2024.
Majority of these workers ended up working in scam hubs in Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia.
