THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) is projecting that at least one million Filipinos will enlist during the registration period for the December 2025 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE), which will start today and run until August 10.
Elections chairman George Garcia said about half of the figure, or 500,000, will be youth voters.
Garcia urged all eligible Filipinos to participate in the 10-day registration activity, which said will be open even during weekends and holidays.
“Although we only have a short period, please don’t waste this time. Register for our future. One vote, one Filipino,” he said.
Eligible to register as regular voters are any Filipino citizen; those who are at least 18 years of age on or before the day of the barangay elections; a resident of the Philippines for at least one year and in the place wherein he/she proposes to vote for at least six months immediately preceding the BSKE; those not disqualified by law.
On the other hand, qualified to register as SK voters are Filipino citizens who are at least 15 but not more than 30 years of age; residing in the barangay for at least six months on or before SK elections; and not disqualified by law.
The Comelec said disqualified to register as voters are persons who have been sentenced by final judgment to suffer imprisonment for not less than one year; persons who have been convicted by final judgment by a competent court of having committed any crime involving disloyalty to the government; and persons declared insane or incompetent by competent authority.
The poll body said voter registration will be open in all Offices of Election Officer (OEOs) and satellite registration sites from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and in Register Anywhere Program (RAP) designated sites, such as national government offices and agencies, school and universities, and other public or private places as maybe determined by the Comelec.
RAP activities will only run from August 1 to 7 and will be limited in the National Capital Region, Central Luzon, and Calabarzon.
The voter registration activities will be open for applicants for registration, change of name and status, correction of entries in the registration records, reactivation of registration records, inclusion of registration records and reinstatement of name in the list of voters, and transfer of registration records from foreign post to local.
Online filing of application for reactivation, reactivation with correction of entries, and reactivation with updating of records of senior citizens and persons with disabilities will be accepted from August 1 to 7.
The Comelec said there will be no application for local transfer of registration records during the 10-day registration period.
