SIXTEEN informants received financial rewards during the first quarter of this year for providing information that led to successful anti-drug operations.
The financial reward, totaling P7.06 million, was given to the informants through the “Operation: Private Eye” (OPE) of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
OPE is a citizen-based information collection program designed to encourage the active participation of private citizens to report illegal drug activities in their communities.
PDEA said the information provided by the 16 informants led to the successful conduct of 22 anti-drug operations across the country.
PDEA Director General Isagani Nerez urged the public to be the “eyes and ears” of PDEA through the OPE.
“PDEA OPE is a reward and incentive program designed to fully engage the participation of the citizenry in the national anti-drug campaign by reporting illegal drug activities taking place in the communities,” Nerez.
People wanting to provide information on illegal drug activities can do so via the OPE hotline 09178677332.
“Paying no heed to their own safety, private citizens go out of their way to report illegal drug activities, indicating that there is public trust and confidence in PDEA,” said Nerez.
“There is always strength in numbers. The more people engaged in the fight, the more potential for greater success,” added Nerez.
