THE PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) yesterday said it arrested 143 individuals last month in the country for involvement in online-related crimes.

During the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon public briefing, ACG spokesperson Lt. Wallen Mae Arancillo said 106 of the suspects were arrested in entrapment operations.

The 37 others, Arancillo said, were “wanted persons” arrested by virtue of warrants.

“And also, we rescued 18 minor victims,” said Arancillo.

Arancillo said the ACG also filed a total of 171 cases, including the sale of financial accounts and SIM cards, which she said are usually used in online scams.

She said some of the arrested suspects were also involved in vishing or voice phishing and cyber libel.

Arancillo said a total of 126 cyber warrants were implemented last month — 119 warrants to disclose computer data, four warrants to examine computer data, and three warrants to search, seize and examine computer data.

She said the agency conducted 1,227 cyber patrols last month, which involved the monitoring of social media platforms, such as Facebook and Tiktok, which are usually used to commit cybercrimes.

Arancillo said the ACG is closely coordinating with other government agencies, including the Department of Information and Communications Technology, and other stakeholders in the fight against cybercrimes.

She reiterated the ACG’s appeal to the public to be cautious in their social media interactions.

She said people should not readily believe information spread on social media “since not everything we see online is true and correct.”

“If you were scammed or you experienced cybercrime, do not hesitate to reach us or report to the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group. We are here to help you,” said Arancillo.
