14 cable wire thieves arrested in Cubao, QC

OPERATIVES of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) arrested 14 cable wire thieves in Cubao, Quezon City on Sunday, police reported on Monday.

Seized from the suspects’ possession were P2.46 million worth of PLDT cable wires, the QCPD said in a statement.

Police identified the 14 by their aliases as Alejandre, 56; Joshua, 28; Harimon, 20; Carlo, 36; Jefferson, 19; Danilo, 54; Anderson, 27; John, 27; Barmeo, 32; Jeffrey, 21; Ranie, 39; Julius,29; Louie, 50; and Ben, 47.

The suspects were arrested on Sunday morning in Barangay San Roque, Cubao based on information provided by barangay officials.

The QCPD said barangay officials got a call from a concerned citizen at 3:40 a.m. about a group of men loading cable wires into a vehicle on Mirasol St. corner 20th Ave. in Barangay San Roque.

“The barangay promptly reported the incident to PS (Police Station) 7 personnel, who were patrolling nearby,” the QCPD added.

Two minutes later, policemen arrived at the scene and accosted the suspects who were still loading cable wires into a six-wheeler aluminum van.

“When asked for pertinent documents, the suspects failed to present any, prompting their immediate arrest,” the QCPD said.

Seized from the suspects’ possession were some 147 meters of PLDT cable wires, worth P2.46 million; a hacksaw, a chain, and their vehicle.

Police said the 14 will be charged for violation of Republic Act 10515 or the Anti-Cable Television and Cable Internet Tapping Act of 2013.

Upon verification, the QCPD said eight of the suspects have previous criminal records, including violation of the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004, illegal possession of firearms, possession of illegal drugs, and theft of cable wires.
