TEN illegal gun-making facilities were dismantled by police operatives in a raid in Danao City, Cebu yesterday.
The Central Visayas police regional office said the operation also resulted in the arrest of three people involved in illegal gun manufacturing.
Raided by operatives of the PNP’s Regional Force Battalion 7 was a compound in Barangay Cahumayan. Ten shanties where illegal guns were being produced were subsequently dismantled.
Police said five other gun-making sites were dismantled last March in Danao City.
“The simultaneous dismantling of 15 illegal gun-making sites reflects the intensity of our commitment to rid Central Visayas of deadly weapons,” said Central Visayas police director Maj. Gen. Redrico Maranan.
Maranan has ordered an intensified campaign against the manufacture of illegal guns in the region to curtail the operation of crime gangs, including drug syndicates, and even terrorists.
“These manufacturers fuel violence by supplying firearms to criminal gangs, drug syndicates, private armed groups, and even insurgents like the NPAs (New People’s Army) and terrorists,” said Maranan.
“Their destruction is not just a local triumph—it is a strategic blow to criminal networks operating nationwide,” he added. Since March, a total of eight suspects have been arrested, including the three who were apprehended yesterday.
