THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority yesterday said its traffic enforcers have pulled over more than 14,000 motorists since March 9 when it started the dry run for the exclusive motorcycle lane along Commonwealth Ave. in Quezon City.

MMDA data showed that 14,563 motorists were flagged down and warned by traffic enforcers from March 9 to March 20 for disregarding the motorcycle lane.

Of the number, 3,373 were motorcycle riders while 11,190 were private motorists using the lane exclusively reserved for motorcycles. No traffic citations were issued.

The dry run was supposed to end last Monday, March 20, but the MMDA decided to extend it by another week to allow the Department of Public Works and Highways to complete its patching work in the area and give motorists more time to familiarize themselves with the new policy.

The motorcycle lane runs from Elliptical Road to Dona Carmen.

MMDA Chairperson Romando Artes said once the policy is fully enforced, erring motorists will be fined P500.

The motorcycle lane along Commonwealth Avenue is meant to reduce the number of fatal road crashes involving motorcycles and to improve traffic flow.
