MANILA Mayor and Aksyon Demokratiko standard-bearer Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso’s miting de avance this Saturday will be a homecoming of sorts as it will be held in Moriones, Tondo, where he grew up and started his career in politics.

Tondo is where Moreno was born and discovered by a talent scout while attending a neighbor’s wake, leading to his entry to show business.

“Utang na loob ko sa mga taga-Tondo kung nasaan man ako sa mundo ng public service. Doon ako nagsimula, dun ko din tatapusin ang laban (I hold a deep gratitude to residents of Tondo. It is the place where I started and it will be the place where I will end this campaign),” Moreno said.

The campaign ends this Saturday for all national and local candidates.

“I started there as a councilor and I’ll end my presidential campaign there. ‘Yun man ang sukli na maibigay ko sa mga taga-Tondo,” added Moreno, 47, who started his political career as councilor of Manila’s first district in 1998.

It was also in Tondo, long known for being one of the poorest and most underdeveloped areas in the country, where Moreno launched his presidential bid last year.

Moreno’s team, however, has yet to divulge the details of the program.

As his campaign winds down, Moreno reiterated his appeal to Filipinos to choose him as the country’s next president.

He said if they want peace of mind, they should cast their votes for him on May 9.

He has positioned himself as the alternative to what he said is the never-ending feud between the “yellows” and the “reds,” referring to the camps of Vice President Leni Robredo and former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

“It is not too late for the public to put an end to the infighting between the Marcoses and Aquinos by voting for another candidate who will give them peace of mind by addressing the real problems confronting Filipinos such as unemployment, high cost of electricity and fuel, rising prices of basic commodities, inequality and injustice,” he said.

Moreno said he still believes the “silent majority” will go for him come election day.
