THE wage orders issued by five Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards (RTWPBs) won’t be the last under the Duterte administration.
This was the guarantee of the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC), which said the 12 other regional wage boards are also deep into their deliberations on the grant of pay adjustments.
“Majority of the wage boards are now in the wage deliberation stage already. Only a few are left in the final phases of public hearings,” said NWPC Executive Director Maria Criselda Sy in a televised public briefing.
“Thus, we can expect that in the coming days and weeks, there will be more announcements from the other regional wage boards,” she added.
Earlier, the RTWPBs of the National Capital Region, Western Visayas, Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, and Caraga issued wage orders.
Once all wage boards have issued their respective wage orders, Sy said over three million workers are expected to benefit.
“Based on our estimate, there are around 3.6 million minimum wage earners nationwide. They are the first to benefit from these minimum wage hikes,” said Sy.
