More than 15K caught for lockdown violations

POLICE accosted some 15,427 individuals for quarantine-related violations throughout the country on Saturday, the first day of 2022.

Data from the PNP headquarters in Camp Crame showed that 2,300 of the violators were caught in the National Capital Region (NCR) for violation of minimum public health standards (MPHS), particularly for not wearing of face mask and not following physical distancing.

Of the 15,427 violators apprehended nationwide on Saturday, the PNP said 14,625 were accosted for MPHS violation, 554 for curfew violation and 248 were non-authorized persons outside residence or non-APORs.

Since November 5 when NCR was placed under Alert Level 2 of quarantine, the PNP has accosted 1,456,922 violators nationwide, of which 1,205,295 were merely warned; 158,937 were fined; and 92,690 were brought to police stations for filing of charges.

The alert level system is being implemented hand in hand with the granular lockdown of areas where there are known COVID-19 cases.

As of Saturday, only eight areas are under granular lockdown, six of which are in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, one in NCR and one in Cordillera Administrative Region.
