MORE private schools have offered to take in students affected by the sudden shutdown of Colegio de San Lorenzo (CDSL) in Quezon City with less than a week before the opening of classes on August 22.

Among the schools coming to the rescue of the students are UST Angelicum College, Thames International, and NU Nazareth School.

UST Angelicum College has offered a low down payment of P5,000 and deferred balance until the students have received their refunds from CDSL, one-day admission process, seamless transfer of records and assistance to get government help to students and teachers in private education or GASTPE subsidy.

Thames International offered CDSL students partial scholarship, deferred payment of tuition, as well as seamless transfer of school records. The school said it is also ready to absorb CDSL teachers who may lose their jobs.

NU Nazareth School also made the same offer, along with a free router for Internet connectivity, free Microsoft 365 license and free counselling.

Last Tuesday, DepEd spokesperson Michael Tan Poa said the department will help the parents of CDSL students find schools for their kids.

He said a private school near CDSL has offered to absorb affected students, especially Grade 11 and 12 senior high school students.

“Our energy will now be focused on looking for partners and ways to help students go back to school,” Poa said yesterday, adding the DepEd-NCR regional director is set to meet with the officials of the schools coming to the rescue of CDSL students.

Poa also called on CDSL to immediately facilitate the transfer of records of students and refund the tuition of those who have already enrolled for the incoming school year.

The DepEd and the Commission on Higher Education have yet to say how many students were affected by the sudden closure of CDSL.
