MIGRANT Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac yesterday said he sees a large number of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Lebanon returning home this week as hostilities continue between Israel and the Hezbollah militant group.
So far, 662 individuals, or 630 OFWs and 32 dependents, have come home.
“We are hoping that, this coming week, we will have a mass number of repatriates from Lebanon,” he said in a radio interview.
He said 45 OFWs arrived last Thursday, and 76 OFWs, the biggest batch, on Sunday.
In anticipation of more OFWs seeking repatriation, Cacdac said, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has augmented its personnel in Lebanon.
“We have 20 personnel on the ground in Lebanon. We just deployed an additional four and another five forthcoming,” he said.
Earlier, OFWs in Lebanon said they are “deeply concerned” over the escalating conflict in Lebanon.
There are over 11,000 OFWs based in Lebanon.
