More aid from the US

THE US government will provide an additional $5.9 million (P298 million) in assistance to the Philippines’ anti-COVID efforts.

The US Embassy in Manila on Thursday said the new assistance will “bring the total amount of US pandemic assistance to the Philippines to more than P768 million or $15.2 million.” Last month, the US also provided $5.8 million in assistance to Manila.

The embassy said previous assistance has “boosted testing capacity, intensified infection control, enhanced risk preparedness and crisis communication, strengthened supply chain management and expanded data collection.”

Over the past 20 years, the US government has provided $582 million (P29.6 billion) worth of assistance to the Philippine health sector and $4.5 billion (P228.8 billion) in total development assistance.
