DOMESTIC workers in the National Capital Region (NCR) are set to receive higher wages after the Metro Manila wage board approved an additional P1,000 to their salaries, which raises their minimum monthly salary to P6,000.
In a virtual press briefing, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) spokesman Rolly Francia said: “The NCR wage board has just approved this afternoon a wage increase for our kasambahays of additional P1,000 a month.”
“This brings the monthly take home pay of our kasambahays in the National Capital Region to P6,000 a month,” he said.
Francia said the wage order is expected to benefit an estimated 200,000 domestic workers in Metro Manila, of which 60 percent are living with their employers.
The wage order, according to the spokesman, is now undergoing review by the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC).
“It will be discussed by the NWPC and, once it is affirmed, after 15 days from publication, it will take effect in the National Capital Region,” said Francia.
The decision leaves only the Calabarzon (Region 4A) and Soccsksargen (Region 12) regional wage boards that have yet to issue wage orders for house helps.
“In Region 4A, they are already having deliberations… very soon, most probably tomorrow. They may have the wage order before the current administration ends its term,” Francia said.
“Similarly, the Region 12, we hope they can already submit to the NWPC, within the week or early next week,” he added.
The regional wage boards of the country’s 13 other regions have already issued their respective wage orders for domestic workers.
