POLICE arrested a commander of the Moro National Liberation Front during a raid on a marijuana plantation in Maguing town in Lanao del Sur last Wednesday.
PNP public information office chief Brig. Gen. Roderick Alba identified the suspect as Ustadz Salim Abubakar.
Operatives of the PNP Drug Enforcement Group raided a marijuana plantation in Barangay Bato-Bato and found fully-grown marijuana plants and nabbed Abubakar.
The plants, worth around P12 million, were uprooted and subsequently destroyed.
Police also recovered during the raid four rifles, an M203 grenade launcher, several magazines, assorted ammunition and explosives.
While the operatives were destroying the marijuana plants, Alba said Abubakar asked the policemen to allow him to keep the firearms, magazines, ammunition and explosives.
“He claimed that the said items were issued to him by MNLF Command and used by his followers,” said Alba.
Alba said policemen agreed to issue a certification to Abubakar that the items are in the custody of the police.
