THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority yesterday said traffic flow in Metro Manila’s thoroughfares, including the Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA), is getting heavier as the holiday season approaches.
MMDA Chairman Romando Artes said the agency’s Traffic Engineering Center will do another vehicle count next month but added there is no denying that traffic build-up is getting heavier by the day despite various interventions being done in coordination with local government units and other stakeholders.
“Traffic flow is getting heavier. This October, we will come up with another vehicle volume count but based on our observation, traffic flow is really getting heavier,” he said.
He said they will intensify traffic measures to alleviate the congestion on the metropolis’ roadways, particularly along EDSA.
The 23.8-kilometer-long EDSA is Metro Manila’s prime thoroughfare, passing through six of the metropolis’ 17 local government units from Caloocan, Quezon City, San Juan, Mandaluyong, Makati and Pasay.
The MMDA earlier said their monitoring showed more than 426,000 vehicles are now plying EDSA daily, up from the pre-pandemic level of around 405,000.
In a related development, the Inter-Agency Council for Traffic (I-ACT) said a dry run for a new traffic scheme is now being enforced along ADB Ave. in Ortigas Center, Pasig City.
