THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority yesterday vowed to press criminal charges against a group of e-trike drivers who mauled several of their personnel during clearing operations in Taft Avenue, Pasay City last Sunday.
Although a video footage shared by the Facebook page “William Gile Official” showed only two MMDA enforcers being mauled, the agency said six of their personnel were hurt in the attack.
The six were identified as Jose Zabala, Adrian Nidua, Jericho Fabella, Mario Martin, Jimmy Valencia, and Eddie Boy Garas.
Initial investigation showed a commotion started when a MMDA personnel apprehended an e-trike driver and impounded his trike for a traffic violation.
Several companions of the e-trike driver tried to retrieve the trike from the agency’s tow truck but the enforcers stopped them, leading to a heated argument that led to the men beating the two MMDA enforcers.
They also beat the other MMDA enforcers who tried to intervene.
MMDA Traffic Czar and Special Operations head Edison “Bong” Nebrija condemned the incident and said this will not stop the agency from conducting road clearing operations in the area.
Nebrija also called on the men who mauled the MMDA personnel to surrender. He said the men who mauled the MMDA personnel are members art of the “Zabala group” of e-trike drivers operating in the area.
