THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority yesterday said it will deploy 730 personnel to assist in traffic management and clearing operations during the Feast of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo, Manila.

MMDA spokesperson Melissa Carunungan said the agency personnel will be deployed from January 6 to 9.

Carunungan said they will come from the agency’s Sidewalk Clearing Operations Group, Western Traffic Enforcement Unit and the Metro Parkways Clearing Group.

The deployment will also include street sweepers to ensure the cleanliness of the streets where the “Walk of Faith,” instead of the traditional Traslacion,” will pass through from Quirino Grandstand to the Quiapo Church.

“The Task Force Special Operations was tasked to clear the streets of any obstruction, the Road Emergency Group for emergency cases, and the Metrobase to monitor the situation through (the) CCTV cameras of the command center,” Carunungan said.

Last Tuesday, the Manila Police District said 3,000 of its personnel will be fielded to secure the feast.

They will be assisted by 2,000 more policemen from the National Capital Region Police Office and other support units.

Carunungan said the MMDA will also set up 25 portalets in the area for the use of the devotees.
