THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority yesterday said it has recorded over 3,500 traffic violations using its Non-Contact Traffic Apprehension Policy that the Supreme Court has temporarily stopped pending the resolution of petitions challenging its constitutionality.

Data provided by the agency showed that 3,582 motorists were recorded on the NCAP’s closed circuit television cameras committing various traffic violations from August 31 to September 6.

Last August 31, the NCAP cameras recorded 249 traffic violations, 568 on September 1, 658 on September 2, 378 on September 3, 294 on September 4, 663 on September 5. and 772 on September 6.

Majority of the traffic violations were for disregarding traffic signs, followed by number coding scheme, loading and unloading, obstruction, and illegal parking.

MMDA PIO chief Sharon Gentalian said the agency did not issue traffic citation tickets to the offending motorists.

“They are just recorded for monitoring purposes, and not for the issuance of tickets,” Gentalian said.

Earlier, the MMDA said it will adjust the deployment of traffic enforcers along major thoroughfares following the SC decision stopping the MMDA and several local government units from enforcing the NCAP.
