THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) yesterday intensified operations to clear all roads of traffic obstructions ahead of this year’s Undas celebrations.
MMDA Task Force Special Operations chief Edison Nebrija said the agency’s Task Force Operation Baklas is also clearing all roads near bus terminals.
In Quezon City, he said Task Force Baklas personnel cleared traffic obstructions along Denver and Montreal streets going to Aurora Boulevard and Arayat in Cubao, Quezon city. Roads leading to cemeteries in San Juan City are also being cleared.
Nebrija said clearing operations will also be conducted on roads in Manila, Quezon City, and Malabon this week.
Nebrija also warned vendors not to peddle their wares on sidewalks so as not to hamper the movement of people.
Last week, MMDA spokesperson Melissa Carunungan told a public forum that traffic enforcers will not be allowed to take a day off or be absent as part of the preparation for Undas 2022.
Carunungan said this is to ensure the MMDA will have the maximum number of traffic enforcers along major thoroughfares and roads leading to and from major cemeteries and transportation terminals in Metro Manila
The MMDA has around 2,600 traffic enforcers at present.
“We will also be deploying traffic enforcers near bus terminals to deal with the expected influx of people, as well as in cemeteries,” she added.
