METROPOLITAN Manila Development Authority Chairman Romando Artes yesterday said the flow of traffic on Edsa-Kamuning service road is “still manageable” even after the closure of the southbound portion of the Edsa-Timog flyover to pave the way for repair work.
The Department of Public Works and Highways closed the flyover last June 25.
Artes, who inspected the area along with other officials, said the closure will be in effect for 30 days.
He said vehicles going southbound may turn right at either Mother Ignacia Ave., Panay Ave., Scout Albano, or Scout Borromeo. He said motorcycle riders and bikers may also utilize alternate routes.
“To motorists, please take these alternate routes which were posted in our social media pages,” Artes said.
The MMDA has deployed additional traffic personnel, in coordination with the DPWH, Highway Patrol Group and the Inter-Agency Council for Traffic, to manage traffic flow in the area while repair works are ongoing.
“We have deployed around 100 traffic personnel to manage the traffic flow along Edsa,” Artes said, adding the agency is also being assisted by the Quezon city government.
Traffic enforcers of the city government are detailed to keep the flow of traffic flowing along inner roads, he added.
The agency said around 140, 000 vehicles passing through the flyover daily will be affected by the closure.
Artes said they would also intensify clearing operations of road obstructions and illegally parked vehicles to ensure that traffic flow will remain manageable for the entire period of the closure.
