THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority yesterday said its clearing operations to rid Metro Manila’s roads, including the Mabuhay Lanes, of traffic obstructions have netted 475 illegally parked vehicles from February 12 to 18.
MMDA chairperson Romando Artes said 172 more unattended and illegally parked public and private vehicles were towed to the agency’s impounding sites during the same period.
“Around 204 various obstructions were also confiscated in different roadways in Metro Manila from February 12 to 18,” Artes said, adding the agency will continue its clearing operations to ensure the seamless flow of traffic on major thoroughfares in Metro Manila.
He also reiterated his appeal to the public for cooperation in the agency’s efforts to rid the roads of obstructions that impede the flow of traffic.
He also called on local officials, especially at the barangay level, to do their share to ensure obstruction-free roads in their jurisdictions.
Last month, the MMDA’s clearing operation resulted in the apprehension of 2,778 motorists for illegal parking and other traffic violations, while 2,532 were issued traffic citation tickets.
Another 770 motor vehicles were impounded and 776 illegally parked vehicles were towed during the same period.
