ANTI-NARCOTICS operatives arrested a mix martial arts fighter during a buy-bust operation in Cubao, Quezon City on Saturday night.
Reports reaching PNP chief Debold Sinas identified the suspect as Gary Espinar, 38, of Loyola Subdivision, Barangay Dila, Sta Rosa, Laguna.
Espinar was nabbed by operatives of the District Drug Enforcement Unit of the Northern Police District at the parking lot of SM Hypermart in Barangay Socorro, Cubao at around 8:30 p.m.
Seized from his possession were 1.88 kilos of high-grade marijuana with a street value of P2.82 million, the buy-bust money, a mobile phone and a sports utility vehicle.
PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Ildebrandi Usana said the arrest of Espinar was effected in the presence of a barangay official and a representative from media.
“The buy-bust operation stemmed from an earlier drug-bust on the same evening that yielded 180 grams of kush marijuana, wherein two arrested suspects pointed to Espinar as their source of illegal drugs,” Usana said. — With Christian Oineza
