MISAMIS Occidental Gov. Henry Oaminal was not hurt during a roadside bombing that targeted his convoy in Clarin town in the province last Sunday night.
The Northern Mindanao Regional Police Office said the explosion occurred at 11:10 p.m. along a road in Poblacion II while Oaminal’s convoy was passing.
The first two vehicles in the convoy were damaged by the blast but no one was reported injured. Oaminal, who was in another vehicle, was not hurt.
“Let us praise God, and thank for the many blessings and protection he has showered upon us,” Oaminal said in a statement released yesterday by the provincial government.
“Let us thank God that no one was injured or hurt,” Oaminal said, adding he is “safe and now here at home.”
Police probers are still conducting an investigation to determine who is behind the attack and the motive.
The statement said the Misamis Occidental provincial police office was directed “to conduct checkpoints and dragnet operations” for the possible arrest of the perpetrators.
In December 2021, Oaminal, then a gubernatorial candidate, was injured in a sniper attack in Tangub City.
Oaminal, a former Misamis Occidental congressman, suffered bruises in the attack while now Misamis Occidental Rep. Jason was hit in the nape by a splinter of shattered glass.
Mayor Michael Guttierez of Lopez Jaena, Misamis Occidental, then running for vice governor, was hit by a slug in the temple that exited his nape. He died in a hospital several days later.
