A MINOR fire broke out on the 6th Floor of the Palacio del Gobernador (PDG) Building in Intramuros, Manila yesterday, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
In a statement, the Comelec reported that the fire broke out at around 12:32 p.m. on the sixth floor being leased by the Bureau of Treasury (BOT) but was quickly extinguished.
“Immediately, the duly composed Safety Teams of the agencies, departments, and offices in the PDG activated and quickly acted to extinguish the subject fire. At around 12:38 p.m., said Safety Teams declared (a) ‘Fire Out’,” said the Comelec.
“Fire First Responders egressed the area surrounding the PDG after having determined and confirmed that, indeed, the fire was out in less than 10 minutes,” it added.
The poll body said fire investigators are conducting an investigation on the premises of the Bureau of Treasury and agencies renting offices in the building.
The Comelec said its day-to-day operations as well as preparations for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) weren’t affected.
“No aspect of the BSKE preparations, as well as Comelec general administration activities and regular operations, were affected by the fire,” said the Comelec.
The Comelec has officers on the first, fifth, seventh, and eighth floors of the building.
Last year, a fire broke out at the reception area of the Comelec – Information Technology Department (ITD) on the seventh floor.
