A “WELL-ROOTED” intelligence officer is the new AFP deputy chief of staff for intelligence that supervises intelligence operations against all security threats, including the communist New People’s Army.
Brig. Gen. Greg Almerol assumed his new post on Tuesday during rites led by Lt. Gen. Erickson Gloria, AFP deputy chief of staff, in Camp Aguinaldo.
AFP spokesman Brig. Gen. Edgard Arevalo said Almerol is known to be a “hardworking and well-rooted intelligence officer.”
He said Almerol once headed the Central Monitoring Station of the Office of the Army deputy chief of staff for intelligence and the 14th Intelligence Service Unit of the Army’s Intelligence Security Group.
Almerol succeeded Maj. Gen. Reuben Basiao who has been named commander of the Army’s 10th Infantry Division based in Compostela Valley. The 10th ID is charge of all operations against the NPA in the Davao region.
Almerol, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1989, was deputy commander of the AFP Southern Luzon Command based in Lucena City.
Before his designation as Solcom deputy commander, Almerol was the commander of the Army’s 903rd Brigade in Sorsogon.
Almerol also commanded the Army’s 60th Infantry Battalion in Davao del Norte and the 5th Civil Relations Group in Davao City.
