Metro still tops list of areas with high COVID cases

THE National Capital Region (NCR) continued to have the most cases of new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) during the weekend, the independent OCTA Research group yesterday said.

OCTA fellow Guid David said Metro Manila registered 105 new cases as indicated in the January 14 case bulletin of the Department of Health (DOH).

The DOH reported 368 new COVID infections on Saturday, topped by the NCR and followed by Isabela province with 30 cases, Cavite with 24, Rizal with 15, Batangas with 14, Negros Occidental with 13, Cebu and Laguna with 11 each, and Davao del Sur with 10.

Likewise, Iloilo and Cagayan have nine new cases each, while Bulacan and Pampanga each have eight, seven in Nueva Vizcaya, six in Tarlac, and five in La Union.

Of the 22 new deaths due to COVID, David said three were reported from Metro Manila.

David said that as of the weekend, there are 12,473 active COVID cases nationwide.

“There is a 4.1 percent positivity rate nationwide. Projecting 350-450 new cases on 1.15.23,” David said.

The DOH data for January 14 showed that 4,070,136 Filipinos have been infected with the coronavirus since the pandemic began close to three years ago.

The death toll is at 65,575, while recoveries have been listed at 3,992,088.
