Metro Manila, 13 other areas under signal No. 1

METRO Manila and 13 other areas were placed under Signal No. 1 yesterday by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration as a low pressure area monitored off Eastern Samar intensified into a tropical depression and was named “Butchoy.”

The 13 other areas were Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, southern portion of Aurora, Rizal, Laguna, Cavite, northern and central portion of Quezon, and Camarines Norte.

As of 4 p.m yesterday, Butchoy was some 75 km northwest of Daet in Camarines Norte, moving west northwest at 20 kph. It was packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph.

It is forecast to be some 110 km west of Dagupan this afternoon, 545 km west of Calayan, Cagayan on Saturday afternoon (out of Philippine area of responsibility), and 970 km west northwest of extreme northern Luzon on Sunday afternoon.

PAGASA said Butchoy will bring rains with gusty winds to Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Central Luzon, Camarines Norte, and Pangasinan.

The rest Luzon, the Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, and Bangsamoro region will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.

The rest of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.
