VICE presidential aspirant Sara Duterte-Carpio yesterday met with members of a tricycle operators association, barangay officials and residents of Quezon City, and representatives of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) community as part of the UniTeam’s campaign tour.
Duterte-Carpio was joined by senatorial candidates Herbert Bautista and Salvador Panelo, Quezon City mayoralty aspirant Mike Defensor, and Quezon City vice mayoralty bet Winnie Castelo during the “meet and greet” with the Batasan Terminal Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association.
Duterte-Carpio reiterated her call for unity and asked for support in pursuing efforts that will lead to the country’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, and reaffirmed her commitment to continue some of the programs started by her father, President Duterte, such as the Build, Build, Build infrastructure programs and the fight against crime and illegal drugs.
Duterte-Carpio also took a swipe at her critics and those of her running mate, Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. as she told the public of the saying “Kapag binato ka ng bato, batuhin mo ng tinapay (if you were thrown a rock, throw a bread back),” but not after she gave it her own twist.
Duterte-Carpio was reacting to the “cancelling” that some UniTeam supporters received. UniTeam said ”cancelling” in social media means calling out a person with an element of shame that may or may not be deserved.
“Ito po ay Duterte (shows a fist). Ito po ay Bongbong Marcos (shows a V sign). Ito po ay burger (shows a C sign). Burger. Kapag kayo po ay binato ng cancel dahil nangangamapanya po kayo ng pula at green, ng Marcos at Duterte, batuhin niyo po ng UniTeam burger [This is Duterte. This is Bongbong Marcos. This is a burger. Burger. If you are thrown a rock for cancelling because you are campaigning for red and green, for Marcos and Duterte, throw them a UniTeam burger),” she said before Batoda group in Payatas, Quezon City.
House majority leader Martin Romualdez said while Marcos and Duterte-Carpio are leading in electoral surveys, they will continue to campaign hard not only to sustain their lead but to win on May 9.
