PRESIDENT Duterte has declared May 13 as a regular holiday across the country in observance of the end of Ramadan or Eid’l Fitr.

Duterte, in signing Proclamation No. 1142 last May 10, said the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos recommended the observance of the holiday on May 13.

The proclamation said observance of the holiday aims to “bring the religious and cultural significance of Eid’l Fitr to the fore of national consciousness.” Muslims celebrate Eid’l Fitr for three days after the end of the month of fasting.

It also aims to “give nation the opportunity to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in peace and harmony in the observance of Eid’l Fitr subject to community quarantine and social distancing measures.” — Jocelyn Montemayor
