PRESIDENT Marcos Jr. yesterday said the Marcoses and Aquinos have “always been okay” even if they “don’t agree politically.”
The President made the statement after James “Bimby” and Joshua “Josh” Aquino, sons of entertainment personality Kris Aquino and grandsons of the late President Corazon Cojuangco-Aquino and the late senator Benigno Aquino Jr., visited First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos the other day.
“Well, we’ve always been okay. We just don’t agree politically,” Marcos said when asked about the relationship of the two families.
The Aquinos and Marcoses had been on opposite sides of the political fence.
The President and the First Lady, along with the President’s elder sister Sen. Imee Marcos, paid respects to President Cory Aquino in 2009 following her demise to cancer complications.
The President said the recent visit of the Aquino children “put a little more… personal, a human interaction between our families.”
He added that not many people are aware that his wife, Araneta-Marcos, is actually related to Aquinos via the Cojuangcos.
The youngest sister of the First Lady’s mother Milagros Cacho, Rosario, was married to Pedro Cojuangco who is the eldest brother of President Cory Aquino.
“So, they are related. Kaya’t hindi naman nakakapagtaka, kilang-kilala niya si — kilalang kilala niya ‘yung mga pamangkin niya very well (So, they are related. And it is not surprising that she knows her nephews very well),” the President said.
He added that the two younger Aquinos visited his wife and brought some gifts to thank her after asking the First Lady for some assistance in their travel arrangements.
The President said it was a “very fine gesture on the part of the Aquino family.”
