Marcos, visiting Singapore leader set to meet today

PRESIDENT Marcos Jr. is set to meet today with Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam who will be on a three-day visit to Manila, the Presidential Communications Office said yesterday.

In the meeting set this afternoon, the two leaders are expected to affirm their country’s commitment to strengthen collaboration.

The meeting will be followed by the signing of memorandum of understanding on the recruitment of Filipino healthcare workers and collaboration on climate financing.

Marcos and First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos will welcome the Singapore President and will be accompanied by his spouse, Jane Ittogi Shanmugaratnam, to Malacañang
and host a state banquet for them in the evening.

The Philippines and Singapore, which formally established diplomatic relations on May 16, 1969, are celebrating their 55th year of diplomatic ties this year.

This will be the first time for Shanmugaratnam to visit the Philippines in his official capacity as Singapore’s head of state.

Marcos, during his visit to Singapore in May this year, invited the Singaporean President and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to visit the Philippines.

The Philippine leader visited Singapore from in May to deliver the keynote address at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) Shangri-La Dialogue.
