PRESIDENT Marcos Jr. has urged the public to participate in the government’s “Bayanihan Tourism” undertaking and encouraged them to go out and visit different tourism spots in the country, especially during the upcoming observance of the All Souls’ and All Saints’ Days.
In the 228th episode of his vlog, the President encouraged domestic tourists to go around the country, saying that by visiting top spots they can contribute to the creation of new jobs while supporting existing ones.
Marcos said he recently declared October 31 as a special non-working holiday to give Filipinos a chance to spend a longer time with their families and visit different tourist spots in the country.
“To those that have the means, your travelling and sightseeing will be a big contribution to our local economies,” he said.
“That is bayanihan in tourism … always remember that in your travel and sightseeing in the Philippines you will help in our recovery,” he added.
Marcos said the tourism industry has been heavily affected by the coronavirus disease pandemic in the last two years, and to help its recovery the government has been supporting initiatives to improve existing tourist spots and create new ones.
Last Wednesday, the President led the switch on ceremonies of the San Juanico Aesthetic Lighting Project at the San Juanico bridge in Leyte to prop up tourism and economic activity in the Eastern Visayas region, particularly as it gears toward post-pandemic recovery.
He also inspected the ongoing construction of new runways in Ormoc’s airport.
The President said with such improvement and access to facilities and new sites to see, one could encourage tourists to visit.
Yesterday, Marcos attended the Masskara Festival in Bacolod City.
He said if the people of Bacolod can hold festivities as big as the Masskara festival, he expects other provinces to do the same.
